Murree authorities launch Mission Safe Winter ahead of snowfall

Mission Safe Winter Murree

Ahead of the expected winter snowfall, the Murree district administration has officially launched “Mission Safe Winter”, a comprehensive safety initiative aimed at protecting tourists and local residents during severe weather conditions.

The plan combines digital monitoring, on-ground security measures, and public advisories to minimize risks associated with heavy snow, road blockages, and extreme cold. Authorities have urged tourists to avoid unnecessary travel during peak snowfall days and strictly follow official instructions.

High Alert Issued From January 17 to 21

According to official sources, the entire Murree police force will remain on high alert from January 17 to January 21. During this period:

  • Additional police personnel will be deployed across Murree

  • Traffic police will manage entry and exit points

  • Emergency response teams will stay operational round the clock

Special focus will be placed on Mall Road, Expressway routes, and high-risk tourist areas, where congestion and weather-related hazards are most likely.

Digital Surveillance and Real-Time Monitoring

As part of Mission Safe Winter, authorities have introduced a modern digital surveillance system to monitor:

  • Tourist movement and traffic flow

  • Weather updates and snowfall intensity

  • Road conditions and emergency situations

A centralized control room will coordinate between the district administration, police, traffic authorities, and rescue services, ensuring quick response to any emergency.

Advisory for Tourists

The district administration has issued clear guidelines for tourists planning to visit Murree:

  • Avoid travel during heavy snowfall forecasts

  • Check weather updates before departure

  • Use designated parking areas only

  • Do not block roads or park vehicles irresponsibly

  • Cooperate with police and rescue teams

Tourists have also been advised to carry warm clothing, food supplies, and emergency kits, and avoid night travel during severe weather.

On-Ground Arrangements and Emergency Services

To ensure public safety, authorities have made extensive on-ground arrangements, including:

  • Deployment of snow-clearing machinery

  • Availability of rescue and medical teams

  • Traffic diversions to prevent congestion

  • Temporary shelters for stranded tourists

These measures aim to prevent situations like previous years, where uncontrolled tourist influx caused severe hardships during snowfall.

Focus on Public Safety Over Tourism Rush

Officials emphasized that public safety remains the top priority. While Murree remains a popular winter destination, authorities have made it clear that uncontrolled tourism during extreme weather will not be allowed.

Visitors are encouraged to plan trips responsibly and consider postponing travel if conditions worsen.
